Steel tube structure refers to the structure in which all or part of the structural members of the steel structure adopt hollow steel tubes.Hollow tubes include round tubes, square tubes, rectangular tubes and polygonal tubes (hexagonal tubes), etc.The world's first modern offshore platform was built in the Gulf of Mexico in 1947. Since then, engineers began to gradually understand the performance of steel pipe structure, which gradually developed with the maturity of modern steel pipe production technology.As far as the form of steel members is concerned, the first structure is round steel pipe, and then the structure of square steel pipe and square steel pipe combined together appears.In terms of structure form, steel tube structure can be used for plane or space truss, mesh frame, mesh shell and frame.With the continuous development of steel pipe structure, its application scope is becoming wider and wider. Steel pipe structure is not only applied in offshore platform, bridge, tower mast and lifting machinery engineering, but also applied in industrial workshop, hangar, gymnasium, exhibition hall, shopping mall and many other industrial and civil construction projects.
Electric resistance welded (ERW) pipe is made from steel coil and the weld seam runs parallel to the pipe. The width of the coil is the same as the circumference of the pipe so diameters are limited to 24 inches. However, because the manufacturing process is fast, it is ideal for large production runs of small (<= 24 in.) diameter sections.
Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) pipe is manufactured by cold forming a flat steel strip into a rounded tube and passing it through a series of forming rollers to obtain a longitudinal seam. The two edges are then simultaneously heated with a high frequency current and squeezed together to form a bond. The longitudinal ERW seam does not require filler metal.
